The Cadence Watch Company

Philadelphia's Boathouse Row by night.

Cadence Rowing started in 2001 with a single mission — to give rowers quality tools to realize their full potential.  Cadence’s flagship product at the time was the popular oar-mounted stroke rate monitor.  This invention helped thousands of rowers easily measure their stroke rate in any boat they row; thus propelling them closer to the realization of their full potential.  Over time, this specialized device turned into a sports watch, and today it is embodied in the Vo series of watches by Cadence.

In 2009 Cadence Rowing became a division of The Cadence Watch Company.  This transformation empowered us to use our expertise in making watches for rowing in other areas.  For example, our Oarsman collection is inspired by a rower’s understanding of the balance of strength and finesse.  This balance is represented by the new slogan of The Cadence Watch Company — drive hard, recover long, repeat often.  In rowing, these commands follow the rhythm of a ticking watch.  Within a six minute race, the rower flows between tension and relaxation hundreds of times; and it is the crew who has mastered this transition that crosses the finish line first.  People outside of rowing have recognized that these same transitions govern their lives, so more people outside of the rowing community are embracing the Oarsman brand as a symbol of this balance.

So, we are growing.  In focused bursts of innovation we create our designs and technology.  Then our customers take over; we take in the feedback and recover for the next burst of creativity.  We repeat this cycle.  Often.   This rhythm lets us bring out products that balance strength and finesse, art and technology, innovation and tradition, environment and mankind.   We hope to spread this balance to our employees, customers, stockholders, and our community.

Our company’s home is Philadelphia.  We are located a mile from the historic Boathouse Row, in a renovated factory building from Philadelphia’s industrial age.   And, we are proud to be part of a movement that is helping Philadelphia become a post-industrial powerhouse reminiscent of our capital and industrial roots.
